Obituary for Allan R. Woolley, Jr.

Allan R. Woolley, Jr., who grew up in Long Branch and West Long Branch, died peacefully at his home in Toms River on Saturday, August 18, 2018, at the age of 92.

Allan was a U.S. Navy Veteran who proudly served during World War II. After the War, he began to work for the phone company, from which he retired in the late 1980s. He lived a very full life, which he spent as a devoted family man and a very active member of the West Long Branch community.

Many knew Allan as an EMT and a Lifetime Member of both the West Long Branch Fire Company and the West Long Branch First Aid Squad. He joined the First Aid Squad in 1956, became a life member, and went inactive life after 22 years of service in 1978. He then came to active life status in 1989 and remained active through 2012, for another 23 years of active service before he went inactive life again. Allan had a total of 45 years active service and was a squad member for a total of 62 years-- a mighty impressive record!

Allan also served the community by being a good neighbor and by volunteering for many tasks, including putting the lights on the Borough Christmas Tree. His love of building things and passion for helping others led to several years’ service with Habitat for Humanity of Long Branch.

Allan also enjoyed personal pursuits such as karate, in which he achieved the level of third degree black belt.

Allan was predeceased by Edith (Edie), his wife of 65 years; and his sisters Barbara (Bobby) and Zelma (Dolly).

Surviving are his children and grandchildren: daughter Robin Sobotka, of Keansburg; son Michael Woolley and his wife Joyce, of Farmingdale; daughter Laura Woolley, of Toms River; granddaughter Amy Sobotka and her wife Sherone Rogers; and granddaughter Allison Woolley.

Allan will be interred with his wife at a private gathering.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the West Long Branch First Aid Squad, P. O. Box 197, West Long Branch, NJ 07764.
